Umbrella House Dinner Party
Sip a cool cocktail, nibble on passed hors d’oeuvres and stroll poolside beneath the perfectly reconstructed “umbrella” canopy that caused Paul Rudolph’s inspiration to be proclaimed a masterpiece in 1953. Talk Lundy, Rudolph and West with fellow MOD-istas as the sun sets and music fills the air. Then prepare yourself for a culinary indulgence as you enjoy a seated dinner under the stars featuring chef Jeremy Chambers’ inspired offerings. Afterward, the possibilities are endless.
This stunning setting is limited to an intimate gathering of 40 guests.
Please note: In the event of rain, the cocktail party will take place indoors at the Umbrella House. However, due to space constraints of the house, the dinner will be moved to Harkavy House (designed by Paul Rudolph in 1957) on Morningside Drive, two blocks away.
The Sarasota Architectural Foundation has chosen Umbrella House to be the site of one of its significant 2016 fundraising events. As a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization, SAF relies on donations from its members and the general public in order to fund its broad spectrum of programming — films, lectures, house tours — which take place during the year. $600 of the dinner ticket price constitutes a tax-deductible contribution to SAF to the extent allowable by law. A letter stating this specific amount will be provided to each attendee.
The Umbrella House received the 2016 Florida Trust Outstanding Award, 2016 Florida AIA Honor Award and the 2016 Florida Gulf Coast Chapter AIA Honor Award and is considered the most important midcentury structure in Sarasota.
